Wilf Libgott: Local DJs/performers are the most underrated hardworking artists around; yet, often the superstars walk away with the credit. In this turn of events, this was not the case.
It was another highly anticipated night in Seattle. The city’s biggest and most successful promoters, USC Events and Marble Productions threw a show with yet another amazing line-up in one of the best venues the city has to offer. Entertainment all abound and the best DJs flying in from all over the globe.
This held true for most of the night, until it became clear headliners Above and Beyond had trouble getting to the show. Apparently, their flight was diverted from Seattle’s Seatac airport to Yakima due to fog. Not surprising since the amount of fireworks lit from Seattle’s landmark the Space Needle was impressive, as well as the new marijuana laws that took effect.
And thirdly because it’s Seattle of all places..
Yakima is essentially two/three hours away from Seattle and all the private choppers were already booked by Hardwell, Tiesto and Armin Van Buuren for the night.
So what happens when the headliner won’t show up and you have about 14k party people through the door to celebrate their New Year’s?
Well, you trust in your local DJs and give them the headlining spot they craved for all these years, playing to thousands of party people that stayed til the end.
Johnny Monsoon (previously featured on Hammarica and a noteworthy producer) and Darrius Washington took the stage and threw down a set for the books. A&B were soon forgotten and Seattle went crazy. It was ‘the 12th man’ supporting their own. And proof that the international DJs are not the only ones who can blow the roof off.
